General intro

First, I want to warmly welcome everyone to the Highland Mists MLP RPG.

Second, please note that this game is rated PG-13 and therefore contains mild violence and themes that may not be suitable for the youngest audiences. If you are very young, you may want to consult your parents before joining the game.

Third, I urge you all to have fun while playing here. This is meant to be a hobby and somewhere nice to come to in order to jump into another life for a moment and have fun with your friends. So anyone who harasses other players or otherwise conducts him/herself in an inappropriate manner, will be given to the Mists and never heard of again. ;D Please note the Rules for specifics.


About the game

The Highland Mists is a play-by-post MLP multiplayer roleplaying game environment. The game revolves around an island called the Highlands to the west of Ponyville and Dream Valley. This is a clan-based society where druids, warriors and Chieftains wield power and family ties are important. Here ancient gods roam and heroes rise and fall. The game is intended to support mainly original Highlander designs of various kinds. Character history, personality and development are highly valued in character design.

The Highlands is an island in the middle of a misty sea. The shores consist of steep, inhospitable cliffs. Most of the Highlands is covered by heathery moors, dangerous bogs or beautiful yet dangerous lakes. Monsters live in these deep lakes and many dangers await the unwary traveller in the moors. The general landscape of Highlands consists of breathtaking hills.

Vast herds of shabbits roam the Highlands, most of them tame and under the careful eye of the Highlander shepherds, but there are still some wild herds which you may come across on your travels.

While this game does involve a cute children's toy of the 80s, the game itself is not intended for children and will contain adult themes. Because adult themes are welcomed at Highlands, so long as sexual innuendo and violence are kept below NC-17 level, no players below 13 years of age will be permitted in the game without their parents' consent. While I realise that it is, in fact, difficult if not impossible to monitor the age of players in an environment where it is only too easy to lie about your age, I hope that all those under 13 years of age who are considering joining the game ask their parents' permission first. Those who are past this age but still feel uncomfortable about adult themes should consider if they rather wait a few years before joining.

Please note that the gameplay and discussion boards are available only to members. You need to join the forum to be able to view them and play. Remember that by registering, you accept that you are interested in joining us to play, not to watch. Once you have joined, you can leave the game at any time, but please let us know before you go. If you do leave us, your characters will be handled according to your wishes. You may either remove them from gameplay or give them as adoptables to other members to play.

Game Policy

If you are considering joining the game, you should be aware of the following.

All unused accounts will be deleted within a month of their creation if they are not activated. In other words, if you register an account at this RPG but you do not activate it and create a character and start playing within a month, your account will be deleted. If you want to return later, you are welcome to create yourself a new account. (You can even have the same username unless someone else has had the time to reserve it before you return.) Once you have started roleplaying regularly, your account is safe.

All accounts apparently used for any other reason than roleplaying will be deleted. Such reasons may include advertising, spamming or just to gain access to the forum or one or more of its members.

Your account will be deleted if you do not post on the boards or contact the GM via PM for 1 year. Note that logging in will not suffice. I need to hear from you to know you're coming back. Your characters will be archived as outlined above.

If you don't respond to a Roll Call within the given time (usually about two weeks) your characters will be archived. This means your character profiles are moved to Reference Characters and all characters you might have in gameplay are treated as temps and removed from any plots they were involved in as convenient, after which they will not be available for gameplay. If you return after this period, you will have to contact the Game Master to have them back and reintroduce them to the game.

Post for your characters as often as you can and let us know if you can no longer play with us or if you need to take a break. Threads that fall inactive will frustrate everyone. If you cannot play for a period of time, please let us know. Once a thread has been inactive because of your inactivity for two weeks without warning, other players in the thread are free to treat your characters as temps and move on without them.

At the event that you do leave the game or your characters are archived due to inacivity, we will always acknowledge your copyright to your original characters. We will not use your characters without your express consent in any way other than by removing them from the gameplay in a manner fitting and respectful to their character concept.

You will need to respect the game background. There is a lot of background to read and absorb, but never fear; we are happy to help you become acquainted and comfortable here. Please note that while we tolerate a modest amount of non-Highlander characters, this game is intended for characters of Highlander origin. If you want to play in a generic My Little Pony RPG or are not interested in the environment outlined in the game background, this is not the place for you.


Note that when you first join, you will have the status of Apprentice and you will not be able to post on the gameplay forums (in fact, you will not be able to post anywhere other than Lounge and Character Review). Once you have posted in the introduction thread and have got your first character approved, you will be assigned normal player status and you can join gameplay. This is intended to assure us of your genuine interest in the game.
